What this Twitter video downloader does
X, still called Twitter by most people, has no download button for videos. This Twitter video downloader takes the link to a public post and lists every video, GIF and photo in it. Most downloaders hand you one "HD" file and hide the rest. This one shows every MP4 quality X keeps, with its resolution and bitrate, so you can pick a full-HD copy for editing or a small one for a chat app.
It also tells you plainly when it can't help: a deleted post, a protected account, an age-restricted video or a post withheld in your country. You get X's reason, not a fake download.
How it works
When a website embeds a post, X's embed widget loads a public JSON description of it from cdn.syndication.twimg.com. That description lists the post's media: each video's MP4 versions on video.twimg.com, and each photo on pbs.twimg.com. The tool reads the same description, needs no login and no API key, and sorts the videos from highest bitrate to lowest. Photos are requested at name=orig, the size they were uploaded at. When you press Download, the file is streamed to you with an instruction to save it rather than play it.
X also offers a streaming playlist (HLS). The tool lists the plain MP4 files instead, because they play everywhere without conversion.

Troubleshooting
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| "That does not look like an X post link" | A profile link, a shortened t.co link, or a cut-off link | Open the post and use Copy link |
| "X did not return this post" | Deleted, protected account, or a wrong id | Open the link in a private window without logging in. If it doesn't load there, it can't load here |
| "X shows this post only to some viewers" | Age-restricted media or a country withholding | Nothing to fix: it needs a logged-in account, which this tool never uses |
| "No video, GIF or photo" | The media is in a quoted post or reply | Copy the link of that quoted post or reply |
| "This video is not available" | Removed after a copyright claim | The file is gone from X too |
| iPhone plays the video instead of saving | An in-app browser | Open this page in Safari |
Quality, explained
X re-encodes every upload. A typical landscape video is stored at 480×270, 640×360, 1280×720 and, for sharp uploads, 1920×1080. Some high-resolution uploads also get a 3840×2160 copy; in our tests a SpaceX launch video listed all five sizes. Vertical clips have matching portrait sizes. The highest option is the best X kept, not the creator's raw file, so a blurry upload stays blurry. When X has no 4K copy, a site that promises "4K" can only enlarge the same pixels.
Copyright and X's rules
Downloading doesn't transfer any rights. The creator owns the video. Keep downloads for personal viewing, research or archiving your own posts, and ask before re-using someone else's clip. Repost and Quote are the ways to share inside X that keep the creator's name attached. This tool respects privacy settings: it doesn't open protected accounts, age-gated posts or withheld content, and it never asks for your X login. Any downloader that does is collecting passwords.
Reading a whole thread instead?
If the video is part of a long thread and you want the text too, the Twitter thread reader rebuilds a self-thread as clean text with images, ready to copy as Markdown or save as a PDF.
Privacy
The link you paste goes to a small server function that reads X's public embed data and returns media addresses. Previews load straight from X's servers. Downloads are streamed through without being stored. There's no account, no history and no tracking of what you download.

The Bluesky video downloader and Threads video downloader do the same job for those networks. To turn a saved clip back into a GIF, use video to GIF; to pull just the audio, use MP4 to MP3.
