Reddit video downloader with sound

Save any public Reddit video as an MP4 with audio, up to 1080p. Paste the post link, pick a quality, download. No login, no watermark.

Works with reddit.com/r/…/comments/…, old.reddit.com and reddit.com/r/…/s/… share links. Public posts only.

01 How to use it

4 steps, no signup

  1. 01

    Copy the post link

On the Reddit post, tap Share and choose Copy link. On desktop you can also copy the address bar while the post is open.

  2. 02

    Paste it above

Paste the link and press Get video. Standard reddit.com/r/…/comments/… links and the newer /s/ share links both work.

  3. 03

    Pick a quality

Choose a resolution. Every option includes the sound. Where Reddit stores the audio as a separate file, the tool merges it for you.

  4. 04

    Save the MP4

The video saves as an ordinary MP4 that plays on any phone or computer. On iPhone it lands in Files → Downloads; tap Share → Save Video to move it to Photos.

A Reddit video downloader that keeps the sound

The most common complaint about downloading from Reddit is a video that plays perfectly on the site but comes out silent once saved. That isn't a glitch in your phone. It's how Reddit stores video. This tool is built around that problem: every download option it offers includes the audio, whether Reddit has already combined it or not.

Paste the link to a public post and you get a list of the resolutions Reddit has for that video, usually from 1080p down to 220p. Choose one and you get an ordinary MP4 file that plays everywhere: iPhone Photos, Android galleries, Windows, macOS, VLC, video editors and messaging apps.

Why Reddit videos lose their sound

Reddit hosts uploaded video on its own media server, v.redd.it, and streams it the way Netflix or YouTube do. Instead of one file, each video is cut into separate video-only files at several resolutions plus a separate audio-only file. Your browser downloads whichever video quality suits your connection, downloads the audio alongside it and plays the two in sync.

That's efficient for streaming, but it means there is no single "the video" file to save. Right-clicking the player, or using a downloader that just grabs the video stream, gets you the picture with no soundtrack. The fix is to fetch the audio as well and combine the two into one MP4, a step video people call muxing.

Muxing is not re-encoding. The picture and sound are copied into a new container untouched, so no quality is lost and the process takes seconds rather than minutes.

How this tool gets the video

The tool reads the public version of the post, the same page a logged-out visitor sees, and looks for the video in two places:

  1. Pre-combined MP4s. For many posts, Reddit also prepares ready-made MP4 files that already contain both picture and sound. When those exist, the tool lists them, and your download is a straight copy of Reddit's own file. This is the fastest path.
  2. Separate video and audio streams. When Reddit only offers the streaming version, the tool lists the available resolutions. When you choose one, your browser downloads that video stream and the best audio stream directly from Reddit, then merges them on your device with ffmpeg.wasm, a version of the open-source FFmpeg tool that runs inside a web page. Nothing is uploaded to us for this step.

Either way the result is the same: one MP4, with sound, at the resolution you chose.

How to copy a Reddit post link

Reddit app (iPhone and Android)

Tap the Share arrow under the post, then Copy link. The app gives you a /s/ share link, which works here as-is.

Desktop browser

Click the post title or comment count so the post opens on its own page, then copy the address bar. You can also use Share → Copy link.

Saving Reddit videos on each device

DeviceWhere the MP4 ends upTip
iPhone / iPad (Safari)Files → DownloadsOpen it, tap Share → Save Video to send it to Photos
Android (Chrome)Downloads folderAppears in Google Photos under "Download"
Windows / MacYour browser's download folderPlays in any player; VLC handles everything

For the merge step, a laptop or desktop is fastest. Recent phones handle it well too. On an older phone with a long 1080p video, choosing 720p finishes noticeably sooner and still looks sharp on a phone screen.

When a download fails, and what to do

  • "This post links to a video on youtube.com." The post is a link, not an upload. Download the video from the site named in the message.
  • "No video found in that post." It's a text post, or the post has been removed.
  • "Reddit isn't offering a downloadable file." Usually an NSFW, quarantined or private-community post. Open the link in a private window: if Reddit asks you to log in or confirm your age, a logged-out tool can't reach it either. If the post opens fine there, try again in a minute, because Reddit's public pages occasionally leave the video out.
  • "Short redd.it links don't say which subreddit." Open the short link in your browser and paste the full address it lands on.
  • The merge stops partway. Your browser may have run out of memory on a very long video. Choose a lower resolution, close other tabs, or use a computer.
  • The download doesn't start on iPhone. You're probably inside the Reddit or Instagram in-app browser. Open the page in Safari.
  • It worked yesterday but not today. Reddit changes how it serves media from time to time. The tool is checked and fixed when that happens; try again later.

Why people download Reddit videos

  • Keeping your own uploads. Reddit has no "download my video" button. This is the simplest way to get back a clean copy of something you posted.
  • Saving before it disappears. Posts get deleted, accounts get suspended and subreddits go private. A saved copy lasts.
  • Watching offline on a flight or commute.
  • Sharing with people who aren't on Reddit, in a group chat for example, with credit to the original post.
  • Reference and research, such as a how-to clip or a piece of footage you want to study frame by frame.

Copyright and fair use

Being able to download a video doesn't make it yours. Whoever filmed or edited it keeps the copyright, and much of Reddit's most-viewed video is itself reposted from somewhere else. Watching a saved copy yourself is very different from re-uploading it, using it in a monetised video or presenting it as your own. Those need the creator's permission. If you share a clip, credit it and link the original post. This page is general information, not legal advice.

Understanding the quality options

When you paste a link, the tool lists every resolution Reddit stored for that video. Reddit decides those renditions at upload time, based on the size of the original. A video uploaded in 1080p usually gets 1080p, 720p, 480p, 360p, 270p and 220p versions. A phone clip uploaded in 720p tops out at 720p, and no tool can create detail that was never uploaded.

A few practical rules:

  • Vertical videos are labelled by their shorter side, the usual convention, so a 1080×1920 phone video shows as 1080p. The exact pixel size is shown under each option.
  • File size grows quickly with resolution. A 1080p file is often three to four times the size of the 480p one. For a group chat, 480p or 720p is usually plenty.
  • Labels tell you how the sound is handled. "Ready-made by Reddit" means a single file Reddit already prepared with sound. "Merged in your browser" means the tool combines Reddit's separate video and audio for you.
  • Silent originals stay silent. If the uploader posted a video with no audio track, the tool tells you instead of pretending.

Using Reddit clips in an edit

If you're pulling a clip into Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, CapCut or iMovie, download the highest resolution available. The MP4 uses H.264 video and AAC audio, which every editor imports without conversion. Because the merge copies the streams rather than re-encoding them, the downloaded file has exactly the quality Reddit streams. It isn't a second-generation copy.

Two things to watch. First, many popular Reddit videos are themselves re-uploads of footage from TikTok, YouTube or news broadcasts, so the person who posted it may not be the person who owns it. Second, Reddit sometimes burns its own captions or crops onto reposted clips. If you need the cleanest copy, it's worth finding the original source.

Saving Reddit images, galleries and GIFs

Not every Reddit post with movement is a video, and not every post is a video at all. The tool recognises three other kinds of post and handles each one properly:

  • Image posts. Reddit's feed shows a compressed preview. The tool finds the original file on i.redd.it, Reddit's image server, and gives you a Download button for the full-resolution JPG or PNG.
  • Gallery posts. Every image in the gallery is listed, in order, each with its own Download button. You don't have to click through the gallery one image at a time.
  • GIF posts. You get two options. The MP4 is a video version Reddit makes itself: it looks the same and is usually a fraction of the size. In one test, a GIF of 6.6 MB had a 0.7 MB MP4 version. The original GIF is there too, for places that only accept GIFs.

Most "GIFs" on Reddit today are actually short, silent MP4 videos, because video files are many times smaller than real GIFs at the same quality. If you're sharing one in a chat app, the MP4 will load faster and look at least as good.

Other ways to save a Reddit video, compared

A web downloader isn't the only option. Here's how the common methods compare, so you can pick the one that suits you:

MethodSound included?Install needed?Good forDrawbacks
This pageYesNoOne-off downloads on any devicePublic posts only
Reddit's "Save" buttonn/aNoBookmarkingDoesn't download anything; disappears if the post is deleted
Browser extensionsUsuallyYesFrequent downloading on desktopNeed permission to read pages you visit; some cap free downloads per day
Third-party Reddit appsVariesYesMobile browsingMany were shut down after Reddit's 2023 API pricing change
Screen recordingYes, if device audio is capturedNo (built in)Last resortLower quality, includes overlays, real-time only
Command-line tools (yt-dlp, redvid)Yes, with FFmpegYesBulk or scripted downloadsTechnical setup

Screen recording deserves a special warning: it captures whatever your screen shows, at your screen's resolution, including notifications and player controls. It also takes as long as the video. Downloading the original file is quicker and better in every way when the post is public.

Step by step on Windows and Mac

  1. Open the Reddit post in your browser so it fills the page (click the post title, not the video).
  2. Copy the address bar with Ctrl+C (Windows) or ⌘+C (Mac).
  3. Come back to this page, click the box and press Ctrl+V / ⌘+V, or use the Paste button.
  4. Click Get video, choose a resolution and click Download.
  5. The MP4 lands in your Downloads folder. It plays in the Photos app on Windows, QuickTime on Mac, and VLC everywhere.

If you use old.reddit.com, the links from there work exactly the same. On a desktop, you can also middle-click the comments link to open the post in a new tab and copy its address from there.

Why your downloaded Reddit video has no sound, and how to tell

If you downloaded a Reddit video somewhere else and it's silent, there are only three possible explanations:

  1. The tool saved only the video track. That's the separate-files problem described above. Download it again here.
  2. The original never had sound. Many "videos" on Reddit are converted GIFs or screen captures with no audio track. Play the post on Reddit: if there's no speaker icon on the player, there's no sound to download.
  3. Your player is muted or can't decode the audio. Rare with MP4 and AAC audio, but try VLC to rule it out.

This tool labels every option. "With sound" means the file has an audio track; when the original is silent, it says so rather than leaving you guessing.

How to spot a safe Reddit downloader

Video downloader sites are a common route for pop-up ads and dodgy installers. Whichever tool you use, these are the warning signs:

  • It asks for your Reddit login. Public videos never require it. A tool that asks is collecting accounts.
  • It wants you to install an app or extension to "unlock" HD or sound. Sound is a merging step, not a premium feature.
  • The Download button opens a new tab or another site. Real downloads start a file save; they don't redirect you.
  • The file isn't an MP4. A video download should never be an .exe, .apk or .dmg.

This page asks for nothing but the link, and the file comes from Reddit's own media servers.

Privacy

The link you paste goes to a small server function that reads the public post and returns the list of video files. It doesn't store the link, the video or any history, and there's no account to connect a download to. When a merge is needed, the video and audio are downloaded by your own browser straight from Reddit's servers and combined on your device. The finished file never passes through ours.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why do Reddit videos download without sound?
Reddit stores the picture and the sound of a video as two separate files. Saving the video file on its own, which is what right-click → Save or many older tools do, gets you silent footage. This tool either picks a version Reddit has already combined, or downloads both parts and merges them in your browser, so the MP4 you get has sound.
Is this Reddit video downloader free?
Yes. No signup, no daily limit, no watermark, and no paid tier hiding the HD option.
Do I need a Reddit account?
No. The tool only reads what a logged-out visitor can see. You never give it a Reddit login, and you should never give your password to any downloader.
How do I download a Reddit video on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, paste the link, choose a quality and tap Download. Find the file in Files → Downloads, tap Share and choose Save Video to add it to Photos. Use Safari rather than the Reddit app's in-app browser, which often blocks downloads.
How do I download a Reddit video on Android?
Use Chrome: paste the link, pick a quality, tap Download. The MP4 goes to your Downloads folder and appears in Google Photos.
How do I download a Reddit video on a PC or Mac?
Open the post, copy the address bar, paste it here and click Download. The MP4 saves to your browser's download folder. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari all work, and nothing needs installing.
Does it work with the new reddit.com/r/…/s/… share links?
Yes. Those short share links redirect to the full post, and the tool follows that redirect. The one link type it can't use is the old redd.it/abc123 short form, because it doesn't say which subreddit the post is in. Open it and copy the full address instead.
Can I paste a v.redd.it link?
Not directly. A v.redd.it address points at Reddit's raw media, not the post, and doesn't say which subreddit it came from. Open the post the video belongs to and paste that link instead.
Can I download Reddit GIFs?
Yes. For a GIF post the tool offers two files: an MP4 version, which Reddit itself makes and which is usually a fraction of the size, and the original GIF as uploaded. GIFs never have sound, so neither file does.
Can I download images and gallery posts?
Yes. Image posts show the original full-size file with a Download button, and gallery posts list every image in the gallery, each downloadable at its original resolution.
What quality can I download?
Whatever Reddit has: often 1080p for recent uploads, otherwise 720p or lower. The tool lists every rendition Reddit offers and never upscales. In our tests, videos uploaded in HD came with five or six options, from 1080p down to around 220p.
Why is my downloaded Reddit video blurry?
Either you picked a low rendition, or the original upload was low quality. Paste the link again and choose the top option. If that is still soft, the uploader posted a low-resolution or re-compressed copy, and no tool can add detail that was never uploaded.
Why is the merge step slow on my phone?
When Reddit serves sound and picture separately, both files are downloaded to your device and joined there, without re-encoding. That is quick on a computer. On an older phone a long 1080p video can take a minute; pick 720p for a faster result.
Why does a post say Reddit isn't offering a downloadable file?
The post has a Reddit video, but Reddit didn't include a playable file in the public version of the page. That is usual for NSFW, quarantined and private-community posts. Occasionally it's temporary, because Reddit's public pages vary from one request to the next, so trying again a minute later can work.
Can I download NSFW or quarantined Reddit videos?
Usually not. Reddit doesn't show those posts to logged-out visitors, so there is no public file to download. The tool will tell you when that's the reason.
Can I download a video linked from YouTube, Imgur or Streamable?
No. If a Reddit post links to another site, the video isn't on Reddit. The tool tells you which site the post links to, so you can go to the original instead.
Can I download a video posted in the comments?
Videos embedded inside comments aren't supported yet. Paste a post link; the tool reads the video attached to the post itself.
Can I download only the audio from a Reddit video?
Not as a separate MP3 here. Download the MP4 with sound, then extract the audio with any editor or converter, for example VLC's Convert/Save feature or an audio editor such as Audacity.
Does the person who posted the video get notified?
No. Reddit doesn't notify anyone when a public post is viewed or its video saved, and this tool only reads the public page.
Is it safe to use this Reddit downloader?
There is nothing to install, no extension permissions to grant and no login to hand over, and the file comes straight from Reddit's own media servers. Be wary of any downloader that asks for your Reddit password, wants you to install an app to "unlock" HD, or opens a stream of pop-ups.
Does Reddit have its own download button?
Not for videos. Reddit lets you save a post to your account, but that only bookmarks it: if the post is deleted, the saved item stops working. A downloaded MP4 is yours to keep.
Is it legal to download Reddit videos?
Saving a public video for personal viewing is generally low-risk, but the person who made it keeps the copyright. Re-uploading it, monetising it or presenting it as yours needs permission. This is general information, not legal advice.
Do you keep a copy of the videos I download?
No. Nothing is stored. When a merge is needed, it happens in your own browser, and the finished file never touches our servers.
It worked before but fails now. Why?
Reddit changes how it serves media from time to time, and its public pages also vary between requests. Try again in a minute. If a post keeps failing while others work, it is likely restricted.
