What this Telegram video downloader does
Public Telegram channels publish every post on the open web at t.me. That public preview is what websites use when they embed a Telegram post, and for most photos and shorter videos it includes a direct media file. This Telegram video downloader online reads that public preview, lists every photo and video in the post, and lets you save each one, without installing Telegram or logging in.
It also does something most Telegram downloaders skip: it tells you when a video cannot be downloaded from the web, and why. You won't get a fake download button that saves a broken file.
How it works
When you paste a post link, a small server function requests the same public embed page Telegram gives to any visitor (t.me/channel/123?embed=1). It finds the photo and video files in that page, notes any video Telegram has marked as playable only in its apps, and sends the list back to your browser. Previews and downloads come from Telegram's own media servers.
Telegram's web media links contain a token that expires. If a download fails after the page has been open for a while, paste the link again.
Which Telegram links work
| Link | Example | Works? |
|---|---|---|
| Public channel post | t.me/durov/546 | Yes |
| Channel web preview post | t.me/s/durov/546 | Yes |
| Album post (several photos or videos) | Any post link | Yes, every item listed |
| Large or long video | Any post link | Detected and explained: save it from the Telegram app |
| Channel link with no post number | t.me/durov | No: copy a single post link |
| Private channel or group post | t.me/c/1234567/89 | No: members only, needs login |
| Invite link | t.me/+AbCd… | No |
| Private chat or saved message | No public link exists | No |
| Channel with "Restrict saving content" on | Any | Please don't: the owner asked people not to save it |
Why private chats and groups are impossible
Messages in private chats, groups and private channels are only delivered to logged-in members through Telegram's own apps. They have no public web page at all. The only way to reach them would be to sign in as a member, which this tool will never do and which you should never let any website do with your account. If you are a member, the Telegram app's own Save option is the right way.
Large videos that only play in Telegram
Telegram's web preview only carries a playable file for videos under a size limit Telegram sets. For bigger files it shows a thumbnail with a play button that opens the app. When the tool sees this, it shows the thumbnail and duration and labels the video Only in the Telegram app. To save it:
- Telegram Desktop or web.telegram.org: open the post, right-click the video and choose Save As or Download.
- Android: open the video, tap the three dots, then Save to Gallery.
- iPhone: open the video, tap the three dots or share icon, then Save Video.
How to copy a Telegram post link
Telegram on Android and iPhone
Long-press the post in the channel and tap Copy Link. Or tap the forward arrow and choose Copy Link in the share sheet.
Telegram Desktop and web
Right-click the post and choose Copy Post Link. If that option is missing, the channel is private and its posts have no public link.
Where your downloads go
| Device | Location | Tip |
|---|---|---|
| Android (Chrome) | Downloads folder | Shows up in Google Photos and most galleries |
| iPhone / iPad (Safari) | Files → Downloads | Open it, then Share → Save Video |
| Windows / Mac | Browser download folder | MP4 plays in any player |
On iPhone, open this page in Safari itself. In-app browsers (Telegram's own, Instagram, Gmail) often block downloads.
Troubleshooting
| Message | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| "That is a channel link, not a post link" | No post number at the end | Copy the individual post link |
| "Private chat, group or invite link" | t.me/c/ or + link | Use the Telegram app if you are a member |
| "Post not found" | Deleted post, wrong number, or the owner restricted saving | Check the link opens at t.me in a private window |
| "Only in the Telegram app" | Video above Telegram's web size limit | Save it from a Telegram app |
| "No video or photo in it" | Text-only post, or media sits in a different post | Copy the link of the post that holds the media |
| Download fails later | Media token expired | Paste the link again |
Copyright and Telegram's terms
Downloading a post does not transfer any rights to it. Personal offline viewing is one thing; re-uploading, selling or presenting someone's video as your own needs their permission. Plenty of Telegram channels redistribute films, courses and paid content without the rights holder's consent. This tool doesn't make that content legal to save, and it never logs in or uses the app to get round a channel owner's Restrict saving content setting.
Privacy
The link you paste goes to a server function that reads the public post and returns media addresses. Nothing is stored: no links, no files, no history, no account. You never enter a phone number or Telegram login.
