Loom video downloader with transcript
Save a public Loom as an MP4 and take the transcript with it. Paste the share link. If the owner switched downloads off, we tell you rather than pretend.
Works with loom.com/share/… and loom.com/embed/… links to public videos.
Loom video
Only download videos you have the right to save. The copyright stays with whoever recorded it.

4 steps, no signup
- 01
Copy the share link
On the Loom video, click Share and then Copy link, or copy the address bar. It looks like
loom.com/share/followed by a long code. - 02
Paste it above
Paste the link and press Get video. The tool reads the same public page a logged-out viewer sees, including the owner's download setting.
- 03
Save the MP4
If the owner allows downloads, press Download MP4. When Loom only has a streaming copy, your browser joins the pieces into one file with sound (MP4, or WebM when that is all Loom offers).
- 04
Grab the transcript
If Loom made a transcript, copy it or save it as a plain text file, with or without timestamps. Captions are offered as a .vtt file.
A Loom downloader that respects the owner's setting
Loom is where a lot of work explanations live: bug reports, design walkthroughs, onboarding tours, sales demos. Sooner or later you want a copy you can keep, watch offline or drop into an edit. Loom has a download button, but only the owner can always see it, and viewers see it only when the owner allows it.
This page does two things most Loom downloaders skip. It reads the owner's download setting and honours it: if downloads are off, you get a clear message instead of a file. And it gives you the transcript, which is often what you actually need from a ten-minute walkthrough.
How it works
- A small server function opens the public share page, exactly as a logged-out visitor would, and reads the title, length, sharing setting and download permission.
- If the video is public and downloadable, it asks Loom's player for the file. Loom answers with a ready-made MP4 or a streaming copy (an HLS playlist or, for some videos, a DASH manifest of WebM pieces).
- An MP4 is saved straight from Loom's CDN. A streaming copy is fetched piece by piece by your browser and joined into one file with
ffmpeg.wasm, without re-encoding, so no quality is lost. HLS copies become an MP4; WebM copies stay WebM. - If Loom generated a transcript, it is shown as text you can copy, with a timestamped version and the captions file.
In our tests on public share links, some videos came back as a single MP4, others only as an HLS playlist, and some only as WebM pieces. Which one you get is Loom's choice per video; the tool handles both.
Which Loom links work
| Link or video | Example | Works? |
|---|---|---|
| Public share link | loom.com/share/0054b0… | Yes, if downloads are on |
| Embed link | loom.com/embed/0054b0… | Yes |
| Share link with a title slug | loom.com/share/my-demo-0054b0… | Yes |
| Owner switched downloads off | Any | Video no; transcript yes |
| Workspace-only or invite-only | Any | No. Not visible when logged out |
| Password protected | Any | No. We never ask for or try passwords |
| Deleted video | Any | No. Loom returns "not found" |
Saving a Loom video on each device
Windows and Mac
Copy the share link from Loom or the address bar, paste it here and press Get video. The MP4 lands in your Downloads folder and plays in QuickTime, the Windows Photos app or VLC. For long recordings that need joining, a computer is the fastest place to do it.
iPhone and iPad
Open the link in Safari (not inside Slack's or Gmail's in-app browser), copy it, paste it here and download. The file goes to Files → Downloads. Open it and tap Share → Save Video to move it into Photos.
Android
In Chrome, paste the link and download. The MP4 appears in your Downloads folder and in Google Photos under "Download".
Getting the transcript
Loom transcribes most recordings automatically. When a video is public, that transcript is part of its public page, so the tool can show it even when the video itself isn't downloadable. Three formats are offered:
- Plain text, for pasting into a doc, a ticket or an AI summariser.
- Timestamped text, one line per phrase, handy for referencing a moment in a long walkthrough.
- Captions (.vtt), which video players and editors can load as subtitles.
If no transcript appears, Loom didn't make one for that video, or it is still processing.
When it fails, and what to do
- "The owner turned downloads off." The creator chose this. Ask them for the file, or use the transcript.
- "This video isn't public." It is shared with a workspace or specific people. Open it while logged in to Loom; if you have access, the owner may let you download it there.
- "Loom didn't show this video to a logged-out visitor." Usually a password or workspace restriction. Try the link in a private window to confirm.
- "Doesn't exist." The video was deleted or the link was cut off when it was pasted. Copy it again.
- The joining step stops partway. Your browser ran out of memory on a long, high-resolution recording. Close other tabs or use a computer.
- The download link stopped working. Loom's file links expire after a while. Press Get video again for a fresh one.
Other ways to save a Loom
| Method | Who can use it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Loom's own Download button | Owner always; viewers if allowed | The original file. Best option when you see it |
| This page | Anyone, for public videos with downloads on | No install, includes the transcript |
| Browser extensions | Anyone who installs one | Need permission to read the pages you visit |
| Screen recording | Anyone | Real-time, lower quality, captures overlays |
Copyright and Loom's terms
The person who recorded a Loom owns it. When they leave downloads on, saving a copy is what they allowed. Re-uploading it, sharing it outside the group it was meant for or using it commercially needs their permission. Recordings often show internal tools, customer data or colleagues' faces, so treat downloaded work videos with the same care as the documents they came from. This tool deliberately does not bypass Loom's download setting, passwords or workspace restrictions.
Privacy
The link you paste goes to a server function that reads Loom's public share page and returns the title, transcript and file links. It stores nothing: no link, no video, no history. The video itself travels directly from Loom's servers to your browser, and any joining happens on your device.
