There is no public top 10 of SaaS domains with a share of the market's citations. Publishing one would mean inventing it. The measurement that does exist is a split. On a year of B2B technology prompts, the company's own site is about 29% of sources when the question names the company, and about 6% when the question only names the need. Company websites as a class are about 83% of that panel, because other companies write the category. Those are three different facts.
- About 29% and about 6% are the same site under two prompts. Resonance, 116 B2B technology brands, October 2025 to September 2026. The post rounds both.
- About 83% is any company website in that panel, not the brand you are trying to sell. About two-thirds of citations went to other companies writing about the category.
- Profound's brand share is a third definition. Any company site, across 11.84 billion citations, is about 57%. ChatGPT is the lowest major engine they state, at 47%. Gemini is 69%. SaaS has a median earned-media share of 11.4%, so the category is brand-site heavy.
- Small probes name Salesforce, Monday, Klaviyo, Zapier, PostHog, and Postmark. They are prompt counts or a 75-prompt overlap list. They are not shares of a market.
- The Citations.press commercial-prompt study was not opened at its own URL. The 41% and 18% figures are from the Markets Insider wire story and are graded partial. Profound's brand-share figures are from the 30 July 2026 post on 11.84 billion citations.
The split that was measured
Resonance and Agentcy counted more than 1.3 million citations in almost 190,000 answers about 116 B2B technology brands, from October 2025 through September 2026. The engines include ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, and others. The figures below are rounded in the source post. Partial
of sources point at the brand's own site when the prompt names the company.
of sources point at that same site when the prompt names the need and not the brand.
of all citations in the panel go to the brand being asked about. Review sites and the press together are about the same size.
Comparison and best-of pages are about one citation in ten across all company websites, and about one in thirty on the brands' own sites. Of the comparison pages cited on unbranded questions, about 2.5% sat on the brand's own site. The listicle the model cites is usually someone else's.
Documentation is a sibling cut, not this one. Resonance says documentation and product pages together took about 30% of ChatGPT's citations in this panel, and that documentation is about one in eight citations to a brand's own site. The page-type movement is on documentation domains. This page stays on who owns the host.
Any company site is a different number
Profound, 30 July 2026, counted 11.84 billion citations across ChatGPT, Claude, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Gemini, Grok, Copilot, and Perplexity. The sweep was 8,061 categories from 16 April to 16 July 2026. "Brand" means any company's own site: corporate pages, product pages, brand-owned blogs and docs. It does not mean the company the prompt is about.
| Cut | Share | What "brand" means here |
|---|---|---|
| All engines | About 57% | Any company site |
| ChatGPT | About 47% | Any company site. Lowest major engine they state. |
| Gemini | About 69% | Any company site. Highest they state. |
| SaaS and software, median earned media | 11.4% | The complement of a brand-heavy category. Not a domain. |
In 24 of 29 industries, the median Profound customer gets more citations from brand sites than from earned or social. Cybersecurity's median brand share is 74%. Government and nonprofit is 15.9%. Pharma and biotech's median earned-media share is 59%. SaaS sits with the brand-heavy group. That is an industry median, not a ranking of salesforce.com against hubspot.com. Profound does not publish the named-brand versus category-question split. Resonance does not publish the 6% and 29% engine by engine.
Azoma, 28 September 2026, is commerce dashboards it describes as 38 million citations, not a SaaS panel. No single domain is more than 2.4% of ChatGPT's citations in that study. ChatGPT's mix there is institutional 37.2%, earned media 22.5%, brand.com 21.5%, retailer 17.5%, social and UGC 0.5%. Useful as a warning that "brand.com" moves when the shelf is retail. Not a SaaS league table.
Software discovery, one surface
DerivateX asked ChatGPT, with web search, for software in 40 B2B categories. The opened report describes one pass: 233 recommendations, 188 with a clickable citation, 105 domains. Vendor-owned sources were 96 of 188, or 51.1%. A press release on the same project describes ten runs and says the recommended tool's own site was the citation 11.6% of the time. Partial The two designs are not reconciled in public. They agree on the useful distinction.
Vendors as a class supply about half the cited URLs, usually by publishing the "best tools" page. The specific vendor being recommended supplies about one citation in nine. Independent and niche sites were 22.9% of the 188. Recognised media were 14.9%. Review aggregators were 1.1%, and G2 and Capterra were not those two. The review-site accounting is on most-cited review domains.
A different commercial frame, not limited to software, comes from a Citations.press study as reported by Markets Insider on 15 September 2026. The study URL was not opened. Partial Across 3,850 commercial prompts on ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, and AI Overviews, from 10 June to 22 August 2026, the wire story says 41% of citations came from sector directories and 18% from brand-owned pages. Brand homepages appeared in 14% of all responses and in 6% of responses to prompts that named a category rather than a company. That 6% is a response incidence for homepages. It is not Resonance's 6% of sources. Directory rates on category prompts, in the same story: Perplexity 47%, AI Overviews 39%, AI Mode 36%, ChatGPT 22%.
Names from small probes
People still want names. The names that were counted in public are probes, and they are labelled as probes.
DataDab, 16 August 2026, ran 200 decision-stage B2B queries on Perplexity. Ranked by queries that cited the domain at least once, not by citation share: reddit.com on 96 queries (48%), g2.com on 33 (16.5%), linkedin.com on 24 (12%), zapier.com on 17 (8.5%). A buying panel of 200 queries can surface a vendor. It cannot rank the SaaS web.
Foglift's Q2 2026 benchmark is 75 buyer-intent prompts, 375 responses, 1,119 domains. Twelve domains were cited at least once by each of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, AI Overviews, and Perplexity. The SaaS names on that list of twelve are salesforce.com, monday.com, klaviyo.com, posthog.com, and postmarkapp.com, alongside health, outdoor, and travel sites. Twelve out of 1,119 is 1.1%. The authors say the sample is too small for a market ranking. It is included so those names are not later promoted into a top five they were never given.
The full engine heads, which are not SaaS lists, stay on ChatGPT and the series hub. Walmart and Amazon lead Copilot. They are retailers. Putting them on a SaaS page would be a category error.
What this does not prove
Open question It does not name the ten SaaS domains AI search cites most. That list was not published, and a composite of Zapier plus Salesforce plus whoever a 75-prompt file happened to hit would be a fiction with real logos on it. It also does not say the homepage is the page to build. Resonance's own-site citations include docs and product pages. A homepage rate, where it was counted, is the smaller number.
About 83%, about 57%, and about 47% are company websites as a class. Using any of them as "our site gets half of citations" swaps the class for the brand. The brand's number, on a question that does not already say its name, is about 6%.
How to use the list
Plan the category prompt against the 6%, not the 29%. The 29% is what happens after the buyer already knows who you are. The cited URL on the way there is usually another company's article, a directory, or a niche site. Docs and product pages are the owned formats that show up in the companion counts. A review profile is a second door, and on the opened software study it was barely a door at all.
Page-level, as opposed to domain-level, is the next cut: most-cited pages, not domains.
When the prompt names the company, its own site is about 29% of sources. When the prompt only names the need, that falls to about 6%. There is no public top 10 of SaaS domains behind either number.
