01 How it works

Trigger rates by query type

AI Overviews don't appear evenly - they cluster on informational and comparison queries and stay away from transactional ones. This tool classifies each keyword by pattern and applies the published rates:

Query typePatternAIO trigger rate
Comparison"X vs Y", "versus"~95%
Review / Best"best…", "top…", "review"~86%
Questionhow / what / why / can / does…~86%
Informationalgeneral, no buy intent~50%
Commercial / Transactionalbuy / price / deal / near me<10%

The AI Exposure Score is the average trigger likelihood across your keywords. The estimated CTR loss on triggered queries uses the Ahrefs figure of ~58% for the #1 position. It's a directional estimate - for exact live AIO presence per keyword, pair it with a SERP tracker.

02 Why it matters

You can't fix what you can't see

Most sites have no idea what share of their keywords now return an AI answer instead of a list of links. If 60% of your traffic sits on high-trigger queries, a big chunk of your organic clicks is being quietly absorbed - and the only durable fix is to become the source the AI Overview cites. This checker is step one: see the exposure, then price it and fix it.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How does this estimate AI Overview exposure without a SERP API?
It classifies each keyword by query pattern and applies published trigger rates: comparison ('X vs Y') queries trigger AI Overviews ~95% of the time, question queries ~86%, review/'best' queries ~86%, general informational ~50%, and commercial/transactional queries under ~10%. It's a fast directional estimate - for exact, live per-keyword AIO presence you'd need a SERP-tracking tool.
What counts as "at risk"?
Any keyword likely to show an AI Overview is at risk of losing clicks - the #1 result loses roughly 58% of its clicks when an AIO appears (Ahrefs, 2025). High-likelihood informational and comparison queries are where the damage concentrates.
My whole list is high-risk. Now what?
That means AI search is reshaping your niche. The fix isn't to abandon those keywords - it's to get cited inside the AI Overview. Start with the 9 tactics for getting cited by ChatGPT, then quantify the money at stake with the Traffic-Loss Calculator.
